Celebrating its tenth anniversary with international and local musicians, the Jazz Sudbury Festival is pleased to announce its lineup for the 2018 Festival, September 5-9.

Bringing worldly and refined sounds to Sudbury’s unique venues, the Jazz Sudbury Festival is northern Ontario’s premier destination for live jazz. This year’s tenth-anniversary festival will host multiple events at eight downtown venues with mainstage events at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park.

Mainstage events will be held September 7-8 and other intimate performances will be taking place throughout the weekend. The festival offers a variety of events including the free Jazz in the Park and the unique Jazzwalk both on September 8, club nights September 5 and 6, and the Jazz Café on September 9. These events will feature local and regional artists such as Sarah Craig and Sunnyside Jazz, the Borealis Jazz Quartet, Nickel City Dixie Stompers and The Freeman Brothers.

The tenth-anniversary celebration brings with it a few additions including fireworks and a new free event, Jazz on the Beach. Featuring engaging workshops and providing a truly unique listening atmosphere at the William Bell Gazebo, Jazz on the Beach will culminate in a scaled down, acoustic performance by Indo-Tanzanian Canadian songwriter Alysha Brilla. This new community event takes place on Sunday, September 9, and is free of charge.

“As always our festival will be chock full of mainstream, contemporary, and fusion jazz as well as World music and blues. There will be artists who performed at our very first festival as well as amazing jazz artists who have been on our wish list that we’ve finally added to the program,” says Artistic Director Allan Walsh, “Jazz Sudbury gets better and better and this year’s program is going to be the best!”

2018 will be a milestone that cements the reputation of the festival as a world-class event and a significant contributor to the economic, and cultural landscapes of the City of Greater Sudbury. The event aims to inspire an appreciation for the colourful and diverse art form of live music and to bring the community together.

Jazz Sudbury Festival 2018 curates a fine blend of established and acclaimed musicians. The festival presents the industry’s best in jazz, soul, blues and world genres. The tenth-anniversary celebration will be spectacular, creating the finest in festival experiences for all attendees.
